Remember when I saw this performed (sorta) live in LA? Awesome.

    • Susan: Listen closely. A vampire is any person or thought or feeling that stands between you and your creative self-expression but they can assume many seductive forms. [...] The last vampire is the mother of all vampires and that is the Vampire of Despair. It'll wake you up at 4am to say things like...
    • Jeff: Who do you think you're kidding?
    • Heidi: You look like a fool.
    • Hunter: No matter how hard you try, you'll never be good enough.
    • Susan: Why is it that if some dude walked up to me on the subway platform and said these things, I’d think he was a mentally ill asshole, but if the vampire inside my head says it, It’s the voice of reason?

Ken Davenport just announced that Godspell is playing its final performance on Sunday, the 24th of June. I’m not surprised but I am heartbroken. This show was fun, it was beautiful, and it brought me back to theater in a way I thought I’d forgotten.
I feel entirely blessed that it’s been a part of my life for the roughly eight months it’s been at Circle in the Square. I’ve seen it 12 times, including the first preview and opening night. It’s far from the most times I’ve seen a show and it’s far from the number of times many others have seen it. But I love that I’ve seen it that many times. I’ll see it once more, I believe, and I’m incredibly sad that I won’t be in town for the final show.
So, as the photo says (which I took during Opening Night curtain call), Thank you - to Ken Davenport, to Stephen Schwartz, to Danny Goldstein, to the cast both past and present, to the crew and administrative workers, to everyone involved with this production - for letting us into the beautiful city you’ve created.

Yeah, I put this on my blog. I’m putting it here too. Because his voice is so pretty. I think I’ll go see him tomorrow afternoon again. I haven’t been to the show in a while.
